In 1936, the German Ministry of Aviation (RLM) supported Felix Wankel in developing a functioning engine with a rotary piston. The RLM was very interested in this as they were heavily engaged in building an air force that would later be used in World War II. Thanks to this support, Felix Wankel was able to build a larger laboratory, the Wankel Versuchswerkstatt in Lindau near Lake Constance. During World War II, Wankel was able to continue his research work thanks to government support. In 1945, his laboratory was dismantled by the Allies. It was not until 1951 that the researcher resumed his experiments, this time in his own home in Lindau, where he established the Technical Development Center (TES).
