Lietzow

Lietzow is a German municipality in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The municipality is administered by the office of Bergen auf Rügen, located in the same-named city.
Lietzow is located about eleven kilometers northeast of Bergen. It is situated on a wooded ridge at the narrowest point between the Großer Jasmunder Bodden and the Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden. In the northeast of the municipality lies the Große Wostevitzer Pond. Federal Highway 96 and the railway lines Stralsund–Sassnitz and Lietzow–Binz run directly through the municipality, and regional trains typically alternate between Sassnitz and Binz, making Lietzow a transfer point. The road embankment was built in 1868 and the railway embankment in 1891. The Kleine Jasmunder Bodden is thus only connected to the Große Jasmunder Bodden by a lock. The municipal area is part of the Jasmund peninsula.
