Frankenheim is a municipality between Meiningen and Fulda in the Rhön; it is a member of the administrative community Hohe Rhön, which has its administrative seat in the town of Kaltennordheim.
The municipality is located in the Hohe Rhön, at the tripoint of Hesse, Thuringia, and Bavaria, in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve and is the highest village in the Rhön with an elevation of 750–780 m above sea level. Above the village is the viewpoint mountain Ellenbogen. Neighboring towns are Hilders, Leubach, Reichenhausen, and Birx.
