Ramin

Ramin is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in the southeastern part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The municipality belongs to the office of Löcknitz-Penkun, headquartered in the municipality of Löcknitz.
The area of the municipality of Ramin is located between the Randowbruch in the west and the border with the Republic of Poland in the east. Situated in the ground moraine region of the Pomeranian stage of the last ice age, the municipality area is characterized by the presence of numerous former boggy areas. The smaller lakes within the municipal boundaries include Krebssee and Rötsee. Another lake, the so-called Holzsee, has silted up due to drainage measures from the past century and is today only recognizable by the reed beds. It was located between the towns of Ramin and Retzin and had an area of over 1.5 hectares. The Krebssee and the already silted Holzsee form deeper depressions in formerly boggy areas. The drainage of the moors for agricultural purposes and the construction of drainage ditches ultimately led to a decline in their water level.
