Wachau

Wachau is a municipality in the southwest of the Bautzen district, Saxony, and has consisted of five districts since 1998. The districts of the municipality are Feldschlößchen, Leppersdorf, Lomnitz, Seifersdorf, and Wachau. The districts Feldschlößchen and Wachau are combined into the locality of Wachau, so that although the municipality of Wachau consists of five districts, it only has 4 localities, which correspond to the former four independent municipalities. The state capital Dresden is about 25 kilometers away.

The districts of the municipality are Feldschlößchen, Leppersdorf, Lomnitz, Seifersdorf, and Wachau. The districts have the status of a locality with their own local representation according to the Saxon municipal code. Leppersdorf and Seifersdorf merged with Wachau in 1994 to form the rural municipality of Wachau. In 1994, a majority decision was made by the previously independent municipalities of Leppersdorf, Seifersdorf, and Wachau that the newly formed municipality with its districts would bear the name Wachau. Lomnitz was incorporated on January 1, 1998.
