Groß Grönau is a municipality in the northern part of the Herzogtum Lauenburg district in Schleswig-Holstein. It borders the Lübeck district of St. Jürgen directly to the north and west and forms an agglomeration with Lübeck. In the locality, there is a branch office of the administration of the Lauenburgische Seen office. Groß Grönau has no other districts.
The eastern municipality boundary is formed by the Wakenitz, which also serves as the state border with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on its eastern shore. Along the Wakenitz, the Drägerweg runs as a hiking trail from Lübeck to Rothenhusen at Lake Ratzeburg.
