The slate village of Bundenbach is located by the Iderbach and is known for the Schiefergrube Herrenberg. You can take a guided tour of the cave, where you will get a good impression of how people used to work in very unhealthy and primitive conditions. There are beautiful fossil imprints to admire, including remnants of snakes, sea lilies, mussels, shells, starfish, and sea urchins. You can also view old ruins and the Griessgraben. Between two mountains of the Römerberg, a chasm has formed, where water pours down 40 meters during heavy rain.
