Freiberg is a district in the northern part of Stuttgart. The area was part of the Münster district until 1963 and then came under the Mühlhausen district.
The large housing estate was built from 1964 to 1973 above a steep slope of the Neckar River. The residential complex "Julius Brecht" was constructed between 1966 and 1968 according to the plans of Hans Max Brenner and was the largest German residential building upon its completion, with 22 floors. It has 440 residential units. Other rows of houses were designed by architect Eberhard Rau. Adalbert-Stifter-Straße, together with Mönchfeldstraße, forms a ring from which side streets give access to the estate. The supply of district heating is provided by the waste incineration plant in Münster. To the east, the district of Mönchfeld adjoins.
