Barenburg is a municipality in Lower Saxony, Germany. The municipality is part of the Samtgemeinde Kirchdorf in the district of Diepholz. It has 1,242 inhabitants.
Barenburg was built in the Middle Ages around a castle of that name, which no longer exists. From 1530 onwards, the village had certain privileges, which makes it a stain. It is not impossible, but also not provable, that the spotted leopard in the seal granted by the landlord in 1602, of which the coat of arms of Barenburg has taken over the image in the shield, is a play on words with the name schöner Flecken, beautiful stain.
