Windmills at 's-Heerenberg

The concentration zone was initially planned to be southeast of 's-Heerenberg, between the Grenskanaal and the A-3 motorway, about 750 metres from the basin of 's-Heerenberg. On 30 July 2002, the Municipal Executive decided not to respond to the proposed plan revision because the distance to the centre of 's-Heerenberg was considered to be large enough on the one hand and because a search area for wind turbines has been included in the zoning plan for the outlying area on the Dutch side of the location in question. Emmerich has recently been informed that this planning procedure has been discontinued.

Emmerich now has its eye on another - much smaller - concentration area, directly south of the A3 motorway, about 950 metres south of the 's-Heerenberg basin. The review procedure for this has now been initiated. However, there is still a caveat in the sense that, if the realisation of the northern concentration zone in a slimmed-down form does come into the picture in the long term (during the review procedure), then the realisation of a concentration zone south of the A-3 motorway may still be abandoned and the 'old' location will be brought back into the procedure.
