Oberscheinfeld is a market town in the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim in Middle Franconia. Oberscheinfeld is a member of the administrative community of Scheinfeld.
The medieval church village was probably founded at the turn of the 10th to the 11th century by the Franconian nobleman Appo, whose fields gave the village its name. However, Appenfelden was first mentioned in documents at the beginning of the 14th century with the granting of the tithe to a Ulricus Bebendorfer by the Würzburg bishop Gottfried of Hohenlohe. Over the course of 300 years, the ownership of Appenfelden changed multiple times between Würzburg, Vestenberg, and Bamberg, until large parts of the village came into the possession of the Schwarzeberg family in 1668, who had already exercised jurisdiction there for some time.
