The Imperial Castle of Cochem is a hilltop castle located on a mountain cone in the German town of Cochem on the Moselle. The very iconic imperial castle is situated 100 meters above the city and served as a toll castle in the Middle Ages. According to the latest research, the castle was likely founded around 1100. After its destruction in 1689 by the French, the castle was rebuilt by Louis Fréderic Jacques Ravené in accordance with the Romantic style. The Cochem castle is thus a good example of a structure constructed in the neo-Gothic style during the period of historicism.
