The church dates back to the second half of the 14th century. The towers located to the west of the nave originate from this time. Their design was influenced by the double tower facades of the Magdeburg churches. The towers have low Baroque domes.
However, the church building itself only dates from 1881. It was constructed in the neo-Gothic style. The cross wings and the choir facing north and south end in a polygonal shape. The outer appearance is characterized by regular ashlar blocks. The structure is divided by tracery windows, which are double in the choir and cross wings, but triple in the nave. Between the windows, there are buttresses.
