The Emmer River was dammed in 1983 between Schieder and Harzberg to form Lake Schiedersee. At the dam wall, there was a water height difference of about 10 meters between lake level and the flowing river. In 1996, the Wesertal energy supply company built a fully automatic hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 0.3 megawatts. Today, the successor operator of Wesertal, Energieservice Westfalen Weser GmbH, operates the plant. A large part of the water of the Emmer passes through the turbine here and is used to generate electricity. The remaining part is drained via the hydraulically controllable weir without energy use.
