The Penny mine is a former non-ferrous metal ore mine in the Bensberger ore district in Seelscheid. The mining field was located in the vicinity of Mohlscheid.
Old mounds in the terrain suggest that mining was already conducted in the Penny mining field during the Middle Ages. As an independent mine, the Penny mine was only in operation between 1899 and 1908. It was accessed via a tunnel 650 meters long, which had a cover of 60 meters at its deepest point. It was connected to the shaft, which had a total depth of 125 meters. Below the tunnel floor, the shaft also had two additional depths at intervals of 30 meters each. After World War II, experimental work took place again from 1952 to 1957.
