The Archaeological State Museum of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, formerly known as the Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Schwerin, is the archaeological and cultural history state museum of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin. The museum presents the history as well as archaeological finds of the state and possesses one of the most extensive collections from the Bronze Age in Northern Central Europe. Highlights of the collection include the Bronze Age cult wagon from Peckatel, the horn from Wismar, the dance ring from Roga, and the lurs from Lübzin.
The Archaeological State Museum is rooted in princely collections from the mid-18th century and thus ranks among the old museum collections in Schwerin. The history of the museum collections is closely intertwined with the life’s work of Georg Christian Friedrich Lisch and Robert Beltz. It also incorporates the collections of the traditional Society for Mecklenburg History and Antiquities, the remnants of the grand-ducal antiquities collection "Georgium" from Neustrelitz, as well as numerous other school collections from throughout Mecklenburg.
