The station is located on the Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen-Hattingen railway line, which was opened in 1884 by the Prussian State Railways and largely closed in 1979, directly on the north portal of the Schee Tunnel. A branch also led from the station to Silschede.
The station building dates from 1886, is now privately owned and is protected as an architectural monument. Due to its original condition, the filming of a ZDF TV film took place there in October 1976.
