The first regional court of Bochum was a court building established in Bochum on Schillerstraße from 1889 to 1892. It was destroyed during World War II.
When the Prussian Judiciary Constitution was introduced, the city of Bochum initially received only a local court instead of the former district court. Later, a chamber for criminal matters and one for commercial affairs were added to it. Due to the efforts of the city as well as the Bochum Chamber of Commerce, the establishment of a regional court was achieved in 1888. The law underlying this, dated April 3, 1888, was one of the few issued by Emperor Friedrich III. At that time, about 40,000 people lived in the area of the city of Bochum.
