St. Nicholas Church is a Lutheran church building in Hagenburg in Lower Saxony. The church building is an important neo-Gothic monument in the district of Schaumburg, which has almost completely preserved its original state.
The church was built in the years 1869-1871 to replace the small and dilapidated old village church of Altenhagen. The architect of the striking historicizing building was the leading Conrad Wilhelm Hase. On the one hand, the building owes its construction to the growing village population and the increasing tourism on the Steinhuder Meer. On the other hand, Prince Adolf Georg of Schaumburg-Lippe and his relatives wanted a representative church building in the place where he used Hagenburg Castle as a summer residence. The construction of the church with the prince's lodge was therefore financed almost entirely from the prince's resources.
