The Vereinigte Germania colliery is a former hard coal mine in the Dortmund district of Marten. In the second half of the 19th century, the mine was one of the most significant collieries in the Arnsberg administrative district.
In 1842, the application for the fields Oespel No. I and Oespel No. II was submitted. The fields were later renamed, Oespel No. I to Oespel and Oespel No. II to Anna. In 1844, the application for the field Oberpräsident was submitted. This was followed in 1845 by the application for the field Gustav and in 1846 by the applications for the fields Gewalt and Theodor. In 1847, the field Siebenstern was applied for. In the same year, the quadrants Anna, Oespel, Theodor, Gustav, Gewalt, and Oberpräsident were granted. On May 14, 1850, the quadrant field Siebenstern and a leasing right for ironstone were granted. Still in the same year, the granted fields were consolidated into Vereinigte Germania. Additionally, in this year, the Vereinigte Germania association was founded. The main partners were the two glass manufacturers Theodor and Gustav Müllensiefen, who together owned 101 shares. In 1853, the fields Germania Continuation I and II were applied for. The following year, the fields David and Germania Continuation III were applied for. In 1855, the quadrant field Germania Continuation I was granted. The mining legal association Vereinigte Germania began shaft sinking work for shaft Germania 1 on June 1 of the same year. The shaft was initiated at today's Steinhammerstraße. As early as July, there was a significant water influx with 6.8 m³ of water flowing into the shaft. In December of the same year, the shaft was drained. In the following year, there were also significant water inflows. Due to the strong water inflows, the sinking work progressed slowly. The shaft walls had to be waterproofed in this area. On January 25, 1856, the quadrant field Germania Continuation II was granted. On August 25 of the same year, the shaft reached the carbon seam at a depth of 38 meters. At that time, the mine belonged to the Dortmund district. On March 2, 1857, the quadrant field Germania Continuation III was granted. In the same year, the shaft was deepened to a depth of 61 fathoms. During the sinking work, five coal seams were intersected. These seams had a thickness of 20 to 80 inches and a northern dip of about 16 degrees. In the same year, the 1st level was established at a depth of 98 meters, and the 2nd level at a depth of 129 meters. The upper level was established as a ventilation level.
