Unstrut Valley Bridge

The Unstruttal Bridge is a double-track railway overpass on the new Erfurt–Leipzig/Halle line. With a length of 2668 m, it is the second longest railway bridge in Germany after the Saale-Elster viaduct. The structure consists of a chain of 580 m long jointless and bearingless frame bridges made of prestressed concrete, a form of construction that was used for the first time in Germany for a prestressed concrete railway bridge.
The structure is located between kilometres 246.0 and 248.7 of the new line and spans the valley of the Unstrut north of the municipality of Karsdorf about 25 km southwest of Halle at a height of up to 49 m. In addition to the Unstrut, the Dissau, two state roads, farm roads and the Unstrut railway are crossed. The valley is characterized on its east side by steeply sloping limestone slopes, on its west side its flank is flat. To the west of the bridge follows the Bibra Tunnel, to the east is the Osterberg Tunnel.
