Monrepos Castle was a Baroque palace of the princes of Wied in Neuwied. It was initially called "Montrepos" in French, but later, following the spirit of the times, it became "Monrepos." It was built between 1757 and 1762 on behalf of Count Alexander of Wied-Neuwied near the Hanhöfe above the ancestral castle of Altwied by Behagel von Adlerskron from Frankfurt and served in the 19th century as a summer residence for the princely family. Artistic and playfully designed garden layouts with small hermitages were created around the castle.
