The Saupark Springe is a wildlife park near the German town of Springe in the German state of Lower Saxony. The park with an area of approx. 14 km² is enclosed by an 18 km long wall.
The reason for the creation of the Saupark was a judgment from 1815, in which the kings of Hanover were obliged to prevent damage by game and to thin out the game stock. They were also required to compensate for the damage caused by the game game. From 1836 onwards, King William had a wooded area southeast of Springe walled off, so that he could have a game track where he could hunt freely, while the game could not cause any damage outside the park. His son Ernst August, who succeeded him in 1837, had a hunting lodge built between 1839 and 1841 to a design by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves. In 1871, the hunting rights came into the possession of the German Emperor Wilhelm I, who had the hunting lodge expanded. Since 1945, the Minister-President of the state of Lower Saxony has been the hunting master. The park became a protected nature reserve in 1954 together with the adjacent forests on the Nesselberg, but it is open for recreational use.
