The Latvian Gymnasium in Münster was the only recognized Latvian school in Western Europe when Latvia was a constituent republic of the Soviet Union. It was located in the Kinderhaus district of Münster.
The Latvian Gymnasium Münster emerged from a German refugee camp in 1951. During the Cold War, the Gymnasium accepted students from all over the world, so that the Latvian community in Münster and the Gymnasium developed into a center for the exiled Latvians. Lessons were taught in Latvian. A boarding school was attached to the grammar school.
