The Old Oak is one of the oldest oaks in Germany. The pedunculate oak stands at the entrance to Dausenau in Rhineland-Palatinate on the banks of the Lahn River and is registered as a natural monument under the designation ND-7141-388.
The exact age of the oak cannot be determined. In popular belief, it is already over 1,100 years old, which is probably related to the fact that it was referred to as the "Thousand-Year-Old Oak" about 100 years ago. The former forest director Volkening estimated the age of the tree to be around 700 to 800 years. The tree has a trunk circumference of over eleven meters. It is believed that the oak was used as a court oak during the Middle Ages. However, there is no evidence for this.
