Schloss Großkühnau

Schloss Großkühnau is part of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, which was created in the second half of the 18th century under the reign of Prince Leopold III. Friedrich Franz of Anhalt-Dessau. Today, it is located in the Dessau-Roßlau district of Großkühnau. In the local monument registry, the castle is listed as a historical monument under the registration number 094 40084.
The castle was commissioned by Prince Dietrich of Anhalt-Dessau in 1754, featuring flat risalits, a spacious staircase, and a two-flight wooden staircase in the late Baroque style. The architect is not known, but it is assumed that it was Christian Friedrich Damm. Prince Albert Friedrich of Anhalt-Dessau, a son of Leopold II, had the castle partially redesigned in a neoclassical style in 1780, including the portal designs, staircase, and garden hall. Only the festivity hall on the first floor was decorated according to designs by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff with decorative painting. The design of the garden was carried out by Johann Leopold Ludwig Schoch from 1753 to 1764.
