The water tower at Dränkweg 4 in Bad Zwischenahn is a water and observation tower. It is listed as a historic monument primarily due to its significance in economic and technological history.
The tower, clad in brick facing, was designed by the Hamburg architect Fritz Höger and constructed between 1937 and 1938. The procurement of materials proved to be challenging; iron for concrete reinforcement and piping for connection to the drinking water supply had to be acquired, in part, from the Luftwaffe and the Kriegsmarine. The construction cost around 80,500 Reichsmarks. The water tower was seen by the local NSDAP leadership as an example of the party's economic development efforts. However, it became evident in 2022 that the water tower also served to supply the military airfield 'Adlerhorst' in Rostrup, which later launched Nazi bombers. The tower was put into operation on June 1, 1938.
