The District Court of Offenburg is one of nine district courts in the higher regional court district of Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg. In terms of the number of courts based there, it ranks sixth among these district courts.
In the Grand Duchy of Baden, whose territory had significantly expanded due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 and the Confederation of the Rhine Act of 1806, jurisdiction in higher instances was exercised by the Court of Appeal based in Bruchsal and three, later four, court chambers. The district offices assigned to the administration, including Offenburg-City and Offenburg-Country, were responsible for first-instance proceedings. Judicial activities in the district offices were carried out by officials.
