Today's grammar school in the Alfred-Grosser-Schulzentrum in Bad Bergzabern in the South Palatinate dates back to the founding of a Latin school in 1525. Mayors and councillors of the city had taken up Martin Luther's ideas on school reform and appointed teachers to preach the gospel "without any addition". The Latin school prepared the pupils for attending the state school in Hornbach, but also provided further education to those who did not aspire to attend the grammar school.
