The Stertschultenhof, a former Vorspannhof of Meschede Abbey, was first mentioned in 1310 and is therefore one of the particularly old farms in the Sauerland. It used to be called Sterthof and the owner – after the family name Schulte – Stertschulte. The Stertschultenhof was a pre-tensioning yard on a road that led from the Sauerland to the Rhineland, was developed in the 19th century as Minden-Koblenzer-Chaussee and is now part of the Bundesstraße 55. Four harness horses were kept on hand to support carts in mastering the approximately 2 km long ascent towards Elspe. Agriculture was also practiced. On the upper floor there was a restaurant for the travellers.
