Streng bridge

The Streng Bridge is a bridge over which the federal highway B1 leads at Werder an der Havel over the Strenggraben, a cut from the Havel to Lake Glindow.
King Friedrich I of Prussia had a canal constructed that connected the Havel with Lake Glindow and placed a footbridge over it. It is said to have happened in 1701. However, the bridge over a canal-like ditch was already marked on maps from 1680. The reason for the cut between the Havel and Lake Glindow was likely the fact that the bricks from the Glindow brickworks could be transported to the Potsdam residence faster and more cheaply. In 1773, the wooden bridge was renewed. The traffic on the then Imperial Road 1 increased significantly, and thus the bridge had to be expanded and renewed repeatedly, including in 1867. In 1935, the Streng Bridge was built solidly. At the end of the war in 1945, the bridge was blown up. In 1950, a slab beam concrete bridge was built. It was high enough for the passage of motorboats and passenger ships.
