Wustermark Classification Yard

Wustermark marshalling yard, formerly known as Wustermark shunting yard, is a railway station in the district of Elstal in the municipality of Wustermark in the Havelland district of Brandenburg, west of Berlin. The station, which opened in 1907 with an attached railway depot, was one of the largest and most modern marshalling yards in Germany until World War II. After the war, only half of the station remained in operation, but it continued to be important for freight transport of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the GDR. After the reunification, it lost significance. A threatened closure was avoided in 2008 through the takeover by the Rail & Logistics Center Wustermark, a subsidiary of the Havelländische Eisenbahn. The station is also used by regional passenger transport, and since 1999, the access point has been named Elstal. A number of buildings from the period of the station's construction have been preserved and are listed as historic monuments.
The station is located on the Lehrter Bahn at the northern edge of the town of Elstal, about four kilometers east of the municipal center of Wustermark and eight kilometers west of the Berlin city border. The intersection of the Lehrter Bahn with the Berlin outer ring is about two kilometers away, and it is 26 kilometers to Berlin Central Station.
