Herzog Juliushütte is the name of a steel mill founded in 1575 and the settlement that arose nearby. Both now belong to the town of Langelsheim and are located in the Astfeld district.
At the outlet of the Grane from the valley of the same name in the Harz Mountains, the Brunswick Duke Julius had a smelting works and settlement built in the 16th century. Together with the Frau-Sophien-Hütte and the Okeran Frau-Marien-Hütte, metal extraction from Rammelsberg ores was concentrated in these three ironworks in the 16th century. The smelter existed until 1967 and processed ores containing lead, zinc and rare metals, including from the Rammelsberg near Goslar. Most of the old buildings of the hut were demolished in 1970. Today, only rare metals such as arsenic, germanium and indium are produced at the site.
