The burial ground in the Addenstorfer Heide is located in the municipality of Jelmstorf in the district of Uelzen in Lower Saxony . A special feature of the approximately 10 ha area of the burial ground are 45 preserved round burial mounds from the early Bronze Age. The burial ground, located between Bad Bevensen and Bienenbüttel in the Lüneburg Heath, is located within the landscape conservation area "Hügelgräberfeld bei Addenstorf", which includes not only the heath area but also surrounding forest and arable land.
The Addenstorf Heath belongs to the type of landscape that was formed by human hands. Around 2500 BC, the region still consisted mainly of mixed forest, dominated by oaks and birches. Clearing probably created fields, but they were only cultivated for a short time due to the nutrient-poor soils. The soils, however, offered ideal conditions for the heather with permanent grazing by sheep and goats.
