The Illertal Ost rest area is located on the northbound carriageway of the A7 motorway at kilometer marker 874 between the exits of Dettingen an der Iller and Altenstadt an der Iller in Upper Swabia. Among the German motorway rest areas, it is the only art rest area.
The rest area was initially a small compact facility with 32 seats. A new building followed in March 1996, which was inaugurated on November 19, 1997. The new rest area was built under the leasehold model. In this process, the operator was granted a leasehold by Tank & Rast, while an investor built the building.
