Dresden Frauenkirche

Description

The Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) located at Neumarkt in Dresden is an Evangelical-Lutheran church in high Baroque style that was built between 1726 and 1743. The church was designed by the Dresden architect George Bähr (1666-1738).

In World War II, the church was destroyed during the famous and notorious Bombing of Dresden on February 13-14, 1945. At the time of the GDR, the ruins of the church remained as a permanent reminder of the horrors of the war. After the Wende, reconstruction began in 1994. On October 30, 2005, the church was officially reopened. The reconstruction is estimated to have cost 130 million euros.
