The dammed water is the Dreilägerbach. Furthermore, the dam receives inflow from the artificially created ditches Schleebachgraben and Hasselbachgraben and through a connecting tunnel from the Kalltalsperre, located 6 km away. The flood relief discharges into the Schleebach, a tributary of the Vicht.
The dam wall of the reservoir was built from 1909 to 1911 (or 1912) according to the Intze principle.
In the years 1990 to 1993, the wall was renovated. It received a control walkway on the water side and a facing shell. The wall was also widened and the wall volume increased.
