The Himmelreich Cave is a karst cave on the edge of the Western Harz Mountains, about two kilometres east of Walkenried in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony, near the border with Thuringia. It is located within the Itelteich nature reserve and on the Karst hiking trail. The cave measures 170 m long, 85 m wide and 15 m ceiling height, whereby the interior was significantly changed by the construction of the Walkenrieder Tunnel.
The cave was discovered on July 9, 1868 during the construction of a railway tunnel. The 269 m long Walkenried Tunnel of the South Harz line was built longitudinally through the cave.
