The 130-meter tall large transmission mast is now only used for the broadcasting of three radio programs on ultra short wave, while the smaller antenna carrier is intended for point-to-point communication. During the division of Germany, it was one of the transmission and reception points for the point-to-point connections to West Berlin.
In immediate proximity is the Harz-West transmitter of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk, which broadcasts public television programs in the DVB-T2 HD standard as well as four NDR radio programs. The digital ZDF bouquet can be received via the Brocken transmitter.
