Ritzebüttel Castle in Cuxhaven was the residence of the Hamburg bailiffs during the time of Ritzebüttel's affiliation to Hamburg. The castle, some of which dates back to the 14th century, is one of the oldest surviving secular buildings of North German Brick Gothic in the region and is now open to visitors.
