Harriersand faces the town of Brake, but it has been part of the municipality of Schwanewede since 1 March 1974, as it is more easily accessible from the eastern bank of the river . It was previously administered by the town of Brake itself.
It is 11 km long and has an area of 6 km2 . As of 30 June 2018, the island had 68 inhabitants, as well as numerous holiday homes.
