The Saarbrücken District Court is a German court of ordinary jurisdiction. It is the only district court in Saarland. Its seat is in the state capital Saarbrücken.
As a result of the Congress of Vienna, the majority of what is now Saarland was ceded to Prussia and became part of the newly established governmental district of Trier. As part of a reform of the court organization, the 13 district courts of the area, including the Saarbrücken District Court, were dissolved in 1819 and replaced by the Trier District Court. Only a subordinate investigative office remained in Saarbrücken. As soon as the reform plans became known, the city of Saarbrücken sought the establishment of its own district court. However, it could not prevail with the immediate justice commission, which intended to establish only one district court per governmental district.
