The Heinrich-Heine-Allee in Düsseldorf is a heavily trafficked north-south axis in the downtown area of Düsseldorf. As can be seen from the city map of 1809, several new streets and the city moat were constructed in the leveled and straightened eastern area of the city fortifications around 1805. Among the new streets was a new avenue, the Heinrich-Heine-Allee, which according to an imperial decree from December 17, 1811, was originally developed into a boulevard by Napoleon. The approximately 450 m long and 40 m wide street was initially called Boulevard Napoleon. After the end of the Grand Duchy of Berg in 1813, the boulevard underwent several name changes and around the mid-19th century became the Alleestraße. On September 26, 1963, the name Alleestraße was changed to Heinrich Heine, as he was born in the immediately adjacent Bolkerstraße.
