The beginnings of the monastery date back to the year 1232. Then the Minor Brothers settled in the Johannesklooster in Paderborn. However, this monastery was dissolved after the Reformation.
It was not until 1658 that a second branch of Franciscan observers followed, this time in the Westernstraße. The foundation stone of the monastery followed in 1663, the church was built a few years later. During the Kulturkampf, the monastery was closed from 1875 to 1887. During the First World War, the buildings were used as a hospital. A bombing raid on Paderborn in 1945 destroyed both the monastery and the church. Reconstruction took place immediately after the war. The church was inaugurated in 1948 and the convent buildings three years later.
