The Detmold Synagogue was the place of worship of the Jewish community of Detmold. It stood on Lortzingstraße, was built in 1907 and fell victim to an arson attack during the Kristallnacht pogrom from 9 to 10 November 1938.
The oldest surviving building in Detmold, which served as a synagogue from 1633 to 1742, is located at Bruchmauerstrasse 27. The so-called Court Synagogue is one of the earliest free-standing synagogues of modern Judaism and proof of the existence of Jewish life in Detmold in the 18th century. The house of prayer, hidden in a backyard, was built when Jewish families came back to Detmold after the expulsion in 1614. As early as 2010, the owner wanted to have the inconspicuous house demolished, which he was denied due to its historical significance. The owner is still trying to demolish the building, which has been left to decay, in favor of parking spaces. According to media reports, attempts by the city to acquire it have so far been unsuccessful.
