Mindenerwald bathing lake

The Mindenerwald bathing lake is a small lake in the municipality of Hille in the East Westphalian district of Minden-Lübbecke. The lake is named after the large forest area of the Minden/Mindenerwald State Forest, on the western edge of which the lake is located.
The lake is about 180 meters long and between 80 and 110 meters wide. The water surface is 1.5 hectares. The bathing lake is 51 metres above sea level. 1.2 kilometers to the east is the White Hill, a 64-meter-high moraine hill. The bathing lake is one of the four official bathing sites in the district and 71 in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It has very good water quality. The lake is part of the 47-hectare Minden Forest recreation area and has been developed as a bathing lake. For this purpose, a separating layer of plastic was inserted into the subsoil, which seals the lake downwards. The separation layer is to be replaced in 2013. The official bathing operation takes place from May to mid-September.
