St. Peter and Andrew's Parish Church

The Brilon parish church of St. Peter and Andrew was elevated to a provost church in 1925. It is located, when viewed from the marketplace, a little elevated behind the town hall. The powerful, prominently visible western tower of the hall church is regarded as a landmark of Brilon. The construction of the church began in 1220. After its completion around 1250, the small west tower was replaced by the current early Gothic tower. The 31-meter-high Baroque dome was likely added in 1665 during the renovations of the bell tower. A significant artistic treasure is the copper-gilded Pankratius Cross (circa 1100). Among the preserved paintings from the 14th century is a remarkable depiction of St. Christopher in the southern transept. Historically interesting are also the portals, whose columns display sharp grooves: rare traces of archaic saber sharpening. Tower climbs are possible from May to October.
