The Gelsenkirchen-Buer District Court was one of two district courts in the independent city of Gelsenkirchen until the end of 2015. It was located in the center of the once-independent city of Buer in Westphalia, now Gelsenkirchen-Buer.
The court was established in 1879 as the Royal Prussian District Court of Buer i.W. in the then District of Recklinghausen. It was originally responsible for the area of the Buer district and initially belonged to the district of the Münster Regional Court. The first staff included a judge, two office officials, a bailiff, a clerk, and a court officer who also worked as a prison guard and caretaker. As of April 3, 1888, Buer was assigned to the Essen Regional Court, which had commenced its operations in 1883 in the building at the Essen Salt Market in III. Hagen. Until 1904, the district court was housed in House Buer No. 126, the building at today's Hochstraße 66. The district court area encompassed not only Buer and the independent district of Horst since 1891 but also the area of the Gladbeck District, which had separated from the Buer district in 1885, and the independent district of Westerholt since 1911. From 1904 to 1973, the newly built courthouse at Westerholter Straße 7 was the seat of the authority. By 1908, the court had ten judges. In 1913, the Gladbeck District Court was established and took over nearly 47,700 court residents, while Buer remained responsible for over 103,000 inhabitants in Buer, Horst, and Westerholt.
