Anna-Katharina-Emmerick-House

The Anna Katharina Emmerick House is the reconstruction of the birthplace of the blessed Anna Katharina Emmerick on its original site and is a museum-like memorial. It is located in the Flamschen district belonging to Coesfeld, with the postal address Emmerickweg 20.
This building was a thatched double tenant house built in a two-post construction style. An exact construction date is not available, but it is first mentioned around 1750 in a population directory. There is a hint that the house already existed in 1690, as it is listed as Emmerick’s personal property in a tax list. At that time, as was customary for tenant houses, it belonged to a larger agricultural operation, in this case, the neighboring estate of the same name Emmerick/Emmerich, Flamschen 1. The house was/is oriented north-south. The boarded steep gable projects on console brackets. Changes during the 19th century replaced the original leaded windows with wooden sash windows featuring significantly larger individual window areas. The clay panels were also replaced with field-fired bricks. The small addition on the north/gable side was only added in 1795 as a “sewing room” for A. K. Emmerick after her apprenticeship in the town of Coesfeld.
