Visible from afar are the large dome and the two church towers. You approach a small village and see a large cathedral-like church. The original Romanesque predecessor building (1250) with the stepped gable was expanded with a Neo-Romanesque extension featuring two towers (1908-1922).
After the II Vatican Council, a redesign of the choir and church space took place.
Notable furnishings include: the Gothic baptismal font, the Varlarer Cross (around 1280), the chandelier (1643), altars, windows, and wall paintings from the time of the renovation around 1920. The 15 windows depict the representations of the mysteries of the Rosary. In one choir window, you can see a very rare image of the Holy Trinity, where the Holy Spirit is depicted as a person. From more recent times, one can find the Madonna of the Mantle, the figure of Pope Pius X, and nativity figures by Gertrud Büscher-Eilert. Also worth seeing are the new celebratory altar, the Stations of the Cross, the ambo, and candlesticks by Hermann Kunkler.
